Carson-Newman University Eagles Fall to Flames

Despite winning their third doubles point of the year, Carson-Newman men's tennis (2-5) drops their fifth match of the season after their matchup against Lee University (7-0) on Tuesday, Feb. 28th.

Carson-Newman has won just three doubles points this year, but their matchup against the Flames marks the first time this season that the Eagles have won the doubles point but lost the match.

Doubles

Marc Janse and Rintaro Oka lined up in the one spot for the Eagles against Nico Ramirez and Fransico Faria. The Flames won the set 6-4. Oka and Janse fall to 3-4 on the year.

Ids Waterbolk and Gjorgji Jankulovski won their second set of the season as a pair when they lined up against brothers Mike Groenendijk and Quinn Groenendijk. The Eagles won 6-2.

Lars Hordijk and Marnix Van Dalen took on Wihan Van Der Merwe and Drew Johnston in the three spot. The Eagles secured the doubles victory with a 6-2 dub.

Carson-Newman is 2-1 in matches this season when winning the doubles point. Hordijk/Van Dalen and Jakulovski/Waterbolk have won two doubles matches in a row and are the only two pairs with a positive record.

Singles

Van Dalen returned to the one spot to face off against Ramirez. Van Dalen lost the first game 6-1 but returned to win the second game 6-3. The Eagle ran out of steam in the final game, 6-2, to lose the set.

Janse picked up the only singles victory of the day for Carson-Newman when he lined up in the two spot against Faria. Janse won the first game 6-2 but fell 6-3 in the second. He closed out the set with a 7-6 tiebreaker over Faria. Janse advances to 4-3 on the year.

Jankulovski lined up in the three across from Jordi Dasi. Dasi won the set with 6-1 and 6-4 games.

Oka saw Van Der Werwe in the four spot. Van Der Werwe barely won the first game 7-6, but Oka found life in the second to win 6-4.Van Der Werwe pulled away in the tiebreaker to win 6-2.

 Waterbolk took on Q. Groenendijk in the fifth spot. The Flame won the set with scores of 6-2 and 6-2.

Javier Crespo Sanchez saw his first action of the day when he lined up against M. Groenendijk in the sixth spot. The Eagle won the first set 6-2 but lost the second 6-2. Groenendijk pulled away in the second to win the set.
